Numerous bridges and tunnels connect the Bronx to Manhattan and Queens. Hospitals and medical centers serving the Bronx residents include: Montefiore Medical Center, Lincoln Medical And Mental Health Center, Jacobi Medical Center, St. Barnabas Hospital, Calvary Hospital and the Bronx Lebanon Hospital.
The Bronx is governed by the New York City Charter. The centralized New York City government is responsible for most public services within the Bronx. Each of New York City's five boroughs has its own criminal court system and District Attorney. The Civil Court of the City of New York decides lawsuits involving claims of up to $25,000. The Civil Court includes a small claims division for the informal resolution of cases involving amounts of up to $5,000. County Supreme Courts handle larger personal injury claims.
