The Central Park Medical Unit is a voluntary ambulance corps providing free medical services to people in emergency medical situations in Central Park. It has two ambulances and six specialized mountain bikes.
Each year, the facility treats 2,000 patients with minor medical injuries and transports another 1,200 to area hospitals. An estimated 83 percent of their patients are trauma victims, well over half of them suffering from rollerblading or bike injuries. The remaining patients are medical emergencies, primarily suffering from cardiac arrest, asthma and diabetes.
