In 1877, St. Luke’s Hospital became the first hospital in New York City to boast an ambulance. Today, it offers some of the most advanced emergency services in the city, covering a large area that includes Harlem, Morningside Heights, Central Park, the Upper West Side and the center of midtown Manhattan.
More than 100 pre-hospital workers are on staff, including 18 full-time and 26 part-time paramedics, and 18 full-time and 26 part-time EMTs.
The hospital has 10 ambulances that respond to more than 27,000 calls per year.
The facility at St. Luke’s that receives ambulance patients includes a trauma center, a center for myocardial infarction, a stroke center, a hypothermia receiving center and a sexual assault forensic examiner center.
