Volunteer Heart Ambulance, founded in 1971, is an all-volunteer ambulance corps serving all of Staten Island south of the S.I. Expressway, from the Verrazano Bridge to Goethals Bridge, which is a 34-square mile area where more than half a million people live. 

The volunteer members include Emergency Medical Technicians, certified by New York State, and certified first aid responders. 

Every year, Volunteer Heart responds to hundreds of calls of assistance and transports several hundred patients to the hospital.
